New Logo for Cobalt (Please vote)

maybe some of the creative users can submit a logo design. It might help MintJoomla to concentrate on bug fixing and proper implementation of features while the community helps in this regard ... :D

You can see cube is already there. we just need to engrave or emboss Co 7 :)

By the way Co has 27 elements. May be to add small 2 before 7? It is like Joomla 2.5 Cobalt 7 = 27 :O

Forget about the 2 ... it might just confuse people ... and Cobalt 7 is not any ordinary Cobalt -- it is something very special and precious .. so dont project it as "normal" Cobalt ... :D

Hey, this was my idea and topic ;-)

I already collected some rough ideas... although i have not much sparetime, i will answer here, because you opened this seperate topic.

First thought:

I also had the material and "element" in my mind. It reminds on the Adobe product range though... but that is not a problem. But remember, you might have to think about 2 products (for now), and you might integrate the MintJoomla leaf concept. A single, good looking cobalt logo might not be enough here...

Brainstorming and googling for Cobalt will lead you to a critical information:

• Cobalt IS an element. (I also tend to use the 7, instead of the true number!)

• Emerald IS NOT! (its a compound, so it does not have a "letter" combination, nor a "digit")

Colors:

• Cobalt appears in different colors. The main color people will have in mind is a "tint of blue".

• Emerald is expected to be a "tint of green".

• The base colors could be made of the equal named HEX-colors.

Appearance (Style/Material):

• Base colors - matte, opaque, very slight gradient (e.g. Adobe CS4-5 app icons)

• Base colors - shiny, marbled, polished (iPhone, Apple glossy etc.)

• 2D or 3D

• Shapes? (round, cubic, abstract, mint leaf etc.)

• Metal-Frame or AddOn? (silver border, silver letters)

Appearance (Logo/Name):

• Clean Font (SansSerif, DIN-style, timeless, solid, strong, condensed etc.)

• Icon first, followed by product name

• name includes icon (replaces 1 letter etc.)

• Mint Leaf as little AddOn (visual hint to the developer/company, spans the whole product range)

PS: Yes, i am a picky german graphics designer ;-) surprise, surprise :-)

Mike I like all you mentioned, and I like cube on the picture. I think if add there engraving or embossing, that would be enough. I also remembered PS logos.

The only thing I think there should be no product name in the logo. Because we talk more about product icon rather than logo. For example on Angeldesk logo with name will double name. On JED too. Maibe icon and version with text followed by or under the icon?

And I think it should be square. Because in most places even like JED it is like this.

I made 4 Variations of the new Logo. 2 of them have the Small 2 as you Suggested and 2 without so you can see what would look better. I also made 2 look like they are plain Engraved and the other 2 the same but I gave the engraving a light blue glow so you can see if the logo is too small.

Let me know if you would like to work with this and I can give the Adobe Fireworks PNG file with all the layers editable.

What about the 2 a bit closer to the Co letters. I would reduce cube depth but I guess it will no longer be acube..
