Did you test every feature and functionality?

AFAIK, it is not compatible, nor recommended. At least there is no official statement, except for the roadmap and change log. They began to converted some parts or smaller functions... but not the whole product. Compatibility is set for JS v3.0

No at all.

Why is this? So much difference in C7 and C8? Or in J! plugin architecture?

A lod of differences. Cobalt 8 has a special API for profiling extensions integration and Cobalt 7 does not.

BTW, the last newsletter mentioned: "If you accidentally installed JomSocial 2.8.x on Joomla 3.x, please visit this tutorial, with video, to get back on the right track." So, no JS v2.8.x version was meant to be working or 100% functional on Joomla v3.
