I just summarized my thoughts about the "Uploads field".

  • Add a parameter for field specific path

This will help to better organize the uploaded files for archive/export/backup purposes.

Example:

Upload directory/field path/extension/date/

Field folder name "receipts" --> /uploads/receipts/pdf/2012-04-01/

  • File list display template

Will enhance the display capabilities.

Example: display icon with tooltip (list of files) to save screen space, especially in the list view

  • Add html file description

  • Permission setting -- allow delete/edit

  • Add configuration parameter for folder format

Option:

1) Year --> 2012

2) Year-Month --> 2012-04

3) Year-Month-Day --> 2012-03-29

Global configuration or individual field setting?

  • Display file in browser for PDF, picture, video

Not only downloading the file ...

  • Display options Popup, new window

Rokbox, Joomla standard, Modalizer etc

Thanks...

Yes, there is a personal interest in some features, but i believe that the enumerated features will be beneficial to all users at the end, since they represent useful enhancements and will make the field and the whole cobalt package an outstanding product.

Thank you again to be open and listen to member suggestions... :D

No only one field. But all fields that use this uploader. Those are uploads, audio, pay to downlaod, video, gallery. And may be even more later.

The issue that uploaded files are not deleted if editing or submission is canceled is known. Of course it is possible to delete files if user explicitly clicked "cancel" button. But what if he just click browser back button?

Our mechanism is as follows.

When user upload file it is saved in DB table but with column saved = 0. Then after apply changes or save article it is changed to saved = 1.

Thus we know all unsaved files. We have special tool that you can run and delete those records from DB and filed from HDD.

Then cobalt should delete the files already and not wait for the user to delete them "maybe" in the future ..

The less interaction of an administrator, the better ....

And for the other files, which will not be detected, a cronjob could be the solution ...

but more serious is the issue with editing the title and then all connections to the files are gone

Why we did this, because even if we delete files on explicit cancel, admin will have to run cleaning tool with the same frequencies. Then why not delete them on cleaning only :)

And we will add cron task for that also.

Missing a title. Currently it simply attaches the original filename. Is it possible to have an "optional" title? There might be real world situations, where files have cryptic or user-unfriendly names. Sometimes the uploader is forced to keep those names... or its too much work to correct them by himself with a new "scheme". A speakable title could help here. Displayed as title (replacing the filename), or as tooltip.

Actually you can edit the title in uploads field and "rename" it to anything you want.

Then there is a "description" feature, which can hold even longer descriptions, and they can be displayed depending on your selected template, eg as tooltip ...

This is old topic, but it would be great that fields like:

  • upload
  • gallery
  • video

Were able to limit the number of files per Emerald Subscription or J! Usergroup.
