I am a developer who uses HikaShop on a lot of websites but I have never used Emerald. Just thought I would get that out there up front. :)

I have a prospect that wants to charge an upfront cost of $795 + a $60 / annual subscription with a term of 25 years. Is this something that could be done using an Emerald extension for HikaShop? Also, can Emerald extension be setup to use subscriptions as a payment plan, ie: 12 month financing?

Thanks.

Luke

I think Emerald is right what you need.

You will create Hikashop product iwth custom price that will include product price plus subscription price. After product purchase, subscription will be created for period set in emerald.

But there is a limitation. You can nnot setup recurring subscriptions. Once subscription expires, user will have to extend it by new purchase.

Are you saying that once the 'subscription period has expired' that it will no longer charge the customer? IF so, that is understandable.

When you say 'you cannot setup recurring subscriptions', I'm confused. I thought that was what Emerald was suppose to do. You setup a subscription for X periods and when each period is reached, the customer is either billed or they are automatically charged for the subscription. Am I missing something here?

Yes, that is what I am trying to say.

In order to create recurring subscription you ahve to path to paypal special parameters. HikaShop does not do that.

You see if you purchase subscription through Emerald, it can set those parameters and yes recurring payment are supported. But with Hickashop you actualy purchase HikaShop product, not a Subscription. You get subscription along the way, but hikashop knows nothing about it. All settings are in Emerald. And Emerald has no access to Hikashop checkout process to setup recurring process.

Bottom line: Emerald supports recurring payments with exception of purchase through HikaShop.

"Emerald supports recurring payments with exception of purchase through HikaShop."

So how are subscriptions added via HikaShop?

How can I accomplish what I want to do with this client? He will have a product that will charge a flat amount upfront. Upon the purchase of this product, we need to have a subscription created so that it will charge the client each year starting a year after the initial product purchase.

LukeDouglas So how are subscriptions added via HikaShop?

  1. You add action to Emerald plan which binds plan and Hikashop product.
  2. When this product is purchased, special Emerald-hikashop plugin run some code on success order Hikashop event. This code looks for any plan with this product binded and add this p[lan to the user who made an order.

LukeDouglas How can I accomplish what I want to do with this client?

You cannot. As I have already mentioned purchase will be done through Hikashop checkout process and hikashop PayPal plugin. There is no parameters to support recurring transactions for there is no need for that in e-Commerce type application. So there is no way to do it technically.

Even with pure emerald there is no scenarion to take small upfront fee.

But here is what yuo can do. You can create plan let's say 100 USD. And in cross plan you set discount 50% if user update this plan before it expires. It means next purcase will be only $50 and there will be a motivation to do it on time.
