Well ... I looked and looked. Nowhere on the MintJoomla site could I find proper pricing information (!). Maybe I'm old and blind (and/or stupid) LOL! I'm looking at both Cobalt and Emerald:

1) Is this an annual subscription or a one-off lifetime payment?

2) Is the licence single or multi-site/domain?

Many thanks,

Adam.

EDIT: I had to register to post this. Without registration/loginI got a rather meaningless/unhelpful "Empty solution not allowed." error.

Hello Adam,
did you read the pricing-boxes on the subscription-plans page? There is also a tab/slider called "Frequently asked Questions"... you have to click on it to reveal more infos. Easy to overlook.

In short:

  • Subscriptions are time-based and will give you access to all add-ons, downloads and priority support.
  • Single Purchase is a second option on each product/addon page. It gives lifetime access to the particular file only.

  • In general, you are allowed to use everything on multiple domains.
(Anyways, if you have bigger projects which might require specific support, MintJoomla would not deny additional purchases. ;) Your appreciation and money would ensure further development in the future)

This is because of reCaptch changes. We will fix that shortly.

@pepperstreet I wrote a separate question to make it clearer.

But shortly, because you mentioned: _Single Purchase is a second option on each product/addon page. It gives lifetime access to the particular file only. _

I see single purchases having two versions of the same file, eg. v8.449, v8.450 (just imaginary examples). Do I understand that "single purchase" covers the existing major version only? Or will single purchase give me access to the next versions as well?

Thanks for clarifying.

Multiple (minor) versions are just there for any unexpected compatibility issues. So, if someone encounters any issue, he might download the previous stable release.

Do I understand that "single purchase" covers the existing major version only? Or will single purchase give me access to the next versions as well?

Good point! This information is not very clear. Even to me. At least I am not sure for the Buy-Now option. I would expect that a single purchase is valid for the current major version... but I could be wrong here.

Please, wait for official staff answer...

I may have to apologize to Sergey - he somehow answered this question around one year ago - here http://www.mintjoomla.com/support/community-forum/user-item/242-geojoomla/50-general-questions/976-individual-field-paid-for-how-long-is-licence-valid.html

But a clear explanation for the meaning of "as long as MintJoomla site lives" on the website would still be good. How many versions of Cobalt/Emerald or, more useful - until which Joomla version will the "lifetime" Mint solutions last?

geojoomla as long as MintJoomla site lives

How generous?!

@Sergey, you are a do-gooder (in a positive sense and meaning!)
Maybe you should re-think the concept and product policy ;)

Sergey & team are definitely exemplar support and honest business people. I bought Mighty Extensions 5 years ago for this reason. Then all mighty extensions got "buried", without their fault at all. Joomla changed everything with version 2.5.

That is why I asked now about these "lifetime" individual purchases. They need clarified, both for themselves and for potential clients.

Next year Joomla 4.0 comes. What happens with MintJoomla website when Joomla 3.x is old, un-safe and almost useless (like joomla 1.5 and 2.5 soon)?

I would much appreciate some feedback, so I know what I buy.

Many thanks.

Guys, I do not know. What a sense of lifetime purchase of only one version? If you subscribe for 6 month you get more versions for less money. Also files are rotated there every week. And what we are selling when we talk about time? Yes we are selling updates. Lifetime means you will get updates till mintjoomla dies or I deside to release Cobalt for Joomla 4 as a separate purchase.

But Cobalt for Joomla 3.x if free to download for lifetime.

Ther are 2 files because sometimes when I upload new version I keep there old one just in case if some one get into troubles after update, he can download lower version and downgrade.

We do not give any feedbacks any more. On Mighty extensions we promissed users all the updates. But we failed. We do not know what surprises us in Joomla 4. So I cannot say anything about that untill I see at least alpha. What I can say for sure that for Joomla 3.x we will provide updates and support.

@Sergey I totally agree with you. You can't make any promises for future versions of the Joomla core system.

But this information is not 100% clear for potential buyers. The average user sees "COBALT" as a product name, they don't think about the version number, and which is the required Joomla system version. They purchase something with the name "COBALT" and lifetime, and they might expect to work with it in any upcoming Joomla. Or they might expect to get a compatible "COBALT" for the next major Joomla release. Then you would get the same complaints like for ME RESOURCES.

Hence the subscription plans page:
Actually nothing mentiones that it is bound to Joomla v3.
On the buy-now product page is a J3 label, but that is a compatibility badge for most users. It does not tell "hey, you don't get Cobalt for Joomla >v3".

I would suggest to add some more details and explanations. At least for every purchase with "lifetime".

Peter (nonumber.nl) is another respectable developer, here's his (funny but clear) explanation for "lifetime".

https://www.nonumber.nl/faqs#what-does-lifetime-mean

Just as example :)
