Hello, I am trying to build a mixed category by content-type website.\n\nI want to have a possibility to display in one thematic category items of same named categories in different sections grouped by types. Example: \n\nListing named "Cars" first have records from section "articles" category "cars", \n\n then below from section "company directory" category "cars",\n\n then from section "offers" category cars \n\n and then from section "blog" category "cars" and I will create apropriate number of listings in the menu for such aggregation. \n\n The question is how to get cross sections listings ? Is that possible in Cobalt 7/Joomla 2.5 ?\n\n Honestly Cobalt is my last resort. I tried K2, Mosets Tree, Form2Content - too simple,\n\n Flexicontent and Seblod too messed. Cobalt seems to be transparent enough to understand it yet flexible and functional plus kept under constant development. \n\n One more question, how about CSV or XML import ? Would be great to embed affiliation offers into our website.\n\n\n\n Best Regards \n\n\n\n Derek

Guest one thematic category items of same named categories in different sections grouped by types

Sorry..., can you be more descriptive or visual? What sort of content types do you have and in which structure do you want to store them? And what sort of display/listing are you after?

Example:
Listing "Cars"

Shows records(?) from:

section "Articles" -> category "cars",
section "Company directory" -> category "cars",
section "Offers" -> category cars,
section "Blog" -> category "cars"

I am not sure if I got your point and your final display.

The question is how to get cross sections listings?

Your "section" term might be different to Cobalt's section term?!

There is no cross-section functionality in Cobalt. Sections are independent from each other. (There was a cross-categories feature planned, but it is not implemented yet.)

Cobalt structure:

  • 1 SECTION is typically a "listing" or "application".
  • 1 SECTION may contain a deep CATEGORIES tree hierarchy.
  • 1 SECTION can have MULTIPLE content TYPES
    (Each type has different fields. Types should submit there records into certain categories)

In regards of display...

  • 1 SECTION listting can display MULTIPLE content types
    (requires a common list template. Or specific custom template that handles the different types)
  • Categories can have their own list template and style.

Filters and Search may work across all categories and different types, as long as the field names are identical.

Another "cross" feature are "Tags". They are used across all categories in a section.

FYI - The most free categorization and grouping features are available in the CMS "Drupal". It has a so-called "Taxonomy" and powerful "Views" query builder to create grouped listings etc. For sure, it is very complex, but maybe worth a look to achieve a special application.

First, sorry for writing such ugly way, I don't see the regular forum text area, but a black tinteds rectangle overlayed with no formating. Dear Pepperstreet - You understood perfectly what I mean and your answer gives me a clue of what should I expect by Cobalt - thank you very much. By section I am trying to mean what Cobalt means - if I am regarding to Cobalt, I have to respect how is it organized to be able to do something in it. However, I didn't catch that section in Cobalt can have multiple content types - that is something new for me. Knowing that and that filters can work through categories, I can , I can put all content in ONE SECTION, and have another section for service administration needs. Thank you. you helped a lot. Kind Regards, Derek

@Derek You are welcome!

I didn't catch that section in Cobalt can have multiple content types - that is something new for me. Knowing that and that filters can work through categories Cobalt has many unique features ;-)

Also hence Section parameters -> General parameters:

  • Records mode
  • Filtering mode

And Type parameters -> Category limit

Important and advanced stuff, but I encourage you to play with all the parameters. Once you get the hang of it, you can create amazing things.
