I know this can be obtained by customizing the template,

but I think it should be a default styling

i think for the average internet user the search box is not so usable... it's just a text box, even if for me it's obvious that is a serach box I'm sure it's not obvious for everyone

also, there is no "send/search" button after the box... not for everyone it's obvious to click "enter" after typing some text to search

and given that this is not an ajax search automatically showing results, I think a "search" button (or a little icon) could make it more easy to understand

@Sergey: I hope you don't mind that I told them you are willing to provide them extra info if needed, Sergey

Absolutely! I can help them to find out how to implement picture the best way.

What about having AJAX search on Cobalt's search input (above listing?). AFAIK, the search is indexed... and could have a restriction to work on the title field only. (if there are any performance issues). Since there is so much auto-complete stuff in filters... the search input looks and feels old-fashioned. I know the roadmap already speaks of AJAX in C9... but I wonder why C8 search input lacks this feature?

Nice option (at least for global search plugin). Thanks for the heads-up and link.

Your welcome :)

I use the ajax live search to replace Cobalt's text search. It really enhances the user experience and because it has it's own caching system it's pretty fast too.

One major drawback with J! search plugin: Its not filtering the current list view! It simply redirects to the usual results page. So, no replacement option, IMHO.

Yes, I know its limitations, but it really depends on what kind of application you are building. We all understand the meaning of Cobalt's list view. Site visitors don't. They only see results based on the queries they've set. In my case I use AJAXsearch as a primary search, no list views at all. Because of Ajax, search word prediction, animated results and caching it's easier, faster and fun to use. I use Cobalt's list view as a secondary view (another page) for advanced filtering and searching.

Start philosophical blabla

Many people use Google to search for information. How many of them use advanced search?

If you go shopping, how often do you buy what you had in mind buying? Or did you also end up buying other stuff just because you accidentally stumbled upon them? Isn't the same true if we "shop" for information? :O

End philosophical blabla

The major drawback of the AJAXsearch is not being able to select/filter Cobalt's search fields in the front end module. Yes, you can select to search through Joomla articles and/or Cobalt records, but selecting individual Cobalt fields would serve almost all my needs. I don't think it's possible though, since Cobalt uses only one field to store data for global text search (for a very good reason!)

I guess we have to wait for Cobalt 9 for AJAXsearch, search caching and similar functionality...
