I just heard EasySocial is now integrated with Cobalt and also found out Cobalt can be used to create Job Portals.

However, I couldn't find any demo and therefore would like to request anyone here if it's actually possible to create a Job portal which would include the following:

  1. Registered Users be able to select certain skills

  2. Based on the skills, notifications (and emails) to be sent out to the users when a new job is available.

  3. When new jobs are posted, it streams in the EasySocial wall.

Would be greatfull if someone could kindly answer the above queries. thanks :)

  1. Registered Users be able to select certain skills - yes and more

  2. Based on the skills, notifications (and emails) to be sent out to the users when a new job is available. - you have great notification but based on the skills - no i do not think but maybe i'm wrong :)

  3. When new jobs are posted, it streams in the EasySocial wall. yes but you need plugin pack

  1. Based on skills would mean, based on the profile fields selected in easysocial profile.

Is that possible?

thanks. going through youtube to kickstart cobalt. any tips?

this pack : http://www.mintjoomla.com/downloads/item/17-integrations/320-easysocial.html

  1. Based on skills would mean, based on the profile fields selected in easysocial profile.

Is that possible? No, i meant, based on skills if you use cobalt field

in fact you could build skills field with easysocial but you will not have email / notification from cobalt

for that maybe you could play with sql data and field

yeah, that plugin is only for joomla 3 and not for joomla 2.5. i wonder if it will work on v2.5 though. Hope it would.

I'll use easysocial profile (integrate). Can i still use cobalt fields?

Thank you so much for the kind replies. Really appreciate it.

in fact cobalt and eaysocial together, you can do everything you want but you need to learn the "Cobalt concept"

what i think (only my opinion) you use easysocial for profil and you create a section and a type in cobalt for skills and you display this section in easysocial app :) you would have in easysocial profi, a tab "my skills"

but it is a fast approach, i have done a nice thing in a jobboard, i will try to look how i did

Cobalt Job postal would work differently that you already describe.

You describe skill and other CV information like part of User profile which is handled with EasySocial. Then what is the role of Cobalt in it?

In Job portal with cobalt user would not have a static profile. They would create new profile depending on what job he applies. May one universal or few different CVs. So when we register we do not putt skill or anything. But then in one Cobalt section called My CVs user add articles/CVs. Employee add vacancies. And Then users can attach their CVs to vacancies.

Something like that.

okay. what i'm thinking of is here:

  1. Create a profile (CV) in EasySocial and have it accessible only to a specific user group (employers)

  2. Create a job portal in Cobalt with an EasySocial app for skills

  3. When new jobs are added based on those skills, emails and notifications are to be sent to the sepcific users.

  4. When these users apply for these jobs, a notification or email is sent to the specific users (admins/employers)

  5. Jobs' field may include only the cover letter and a few other fields along with the APPLY button.

I do not want multiple CVs or PDFs.

Now, would cobalt be able to achieve this? Also, Could anyone point me to a tutorial where and how to create a job portal?

More or less this info does not change, no matter to what type of job you are going to apply.

I do not agree. For example I may apply as for construction Builder, Interior Designer or PHP developer of Joomla developer. Because I can professionally do any of those works.

Would it be strange my PHP development practice and Construction builder application to vacancy? I do not think employee would understand. Anyway it is not good to put everything into your application. Usually employees do not trust application where person is a specialist in many areas if they are looking for specialist in only one area. So I want to be able to adjust my CV to that particular case.

What I want to say, it is often very nice to be able to adjust application/CV to vacancy you apply to. For example if I am looking for work I would have 3 applications.

  1. Frontend developer - Where i show out my HTML/CSS/JS skill

  2. Joomla developer - Where I show off my Joomla experience where Joomla is the list of things.

  3. PHP developer - where I show off my PHP experience where Joomla is only one line and also I tell about zend framework, Laravel.

And I would attach different CV to different job offer.

More or less this info does not change, no matter to what type of job you are going to apply.

  1. Jobs' field may include only the cover letter and a few other fields along with the APPLY button.

What apply button will do? Send email with link to profile of user who apply? Attach link to CV create for this offer? ???

I afraid there is no such a tutorial. It is because every user would create this kind of portal differently because everyone sees it differently. So tutorial by one user will probably fit an idea of 1 reader of 100.

Yep, you are right. It really depends. I just described a general/common application. For sure there are different solutions and directions.

My view of a CV in the exact definition of the terms is a "personal data sheet" / "résumé". Which sums up your "life" career in a short version. Such a description does not vary too much. It does apply to almost any job.

For sure, there might be Job boards where it makes sense to cut everything down to a very short and explicite resume. Most applicable if you seek a very specific job… or vice versa: A company seeks special people with a special skill. (Personally, i think it is better to have access to more infos. No matter if it is the company or the employee part.)

clowride i built a job portal with cobalt

Just a reminder... you wanted to post the link to your job portal after your "business trip". In my understanding, the more people will access the job portal, the better. More prospective employers, who might seek applicants and therefore adding value to the portal, at the same time more prospective applicants, which also adds to the value of the portal.

Sergey I do not agree. For example I may apply as for construction Builder, Interior Designer or PHP developer of Joomla developer. Because I can professionally do any of those works.

I dont agree, since the main task for a job portal is the "matching algorithm" and not the "on the spot application". Therefore applicants will post their resume which shows information about their skills. If you have working experinece in all your described parts what is wrong with including everything, rather than submitting a resume with large "holes" inbetween.

Example: 2000-2003 worked as interior designer 2004-2008 worked as construction worker 2009-2013 worked as PHP developer.

If you apply as interior designer and remove the other jobs, what will they think ? He did not work since 2003? Like what pepperstreet said, the "personal data sheet". All the big job portals will just go with 1 CV ... What you describe is the direct submission of a resume to a prospective employer. Like sending an email to the HR department, but not the the idea of an Job portal where things like "matching" and automatic notification are the key features. New job offers against the pool of applicants.
