Hi,

I would like to see a module to show articles based on a year, month or day.

You could then easily create something like:

Headlines of 2011
September training schedule
Today's birthdays

etc

How to "filter" and display a certain date range?

The field now has special AJAX interface that return list of article in JSON format required by calendar.js. This accept start and end date. And depending on parameters it makes its query.

Isn´t it necessary to extend "Records module" for this purpose?

We cannot use records module because records module never return records that are right for module. If we use records module then it will make query but nothing will be used and then AJAX query will be made to accept correct event. This means that one extra query made for nothing. That is why we think calendar require dedicated module.
