At a plenary meeting held on the 26th, the Genkai Town Council (Chairman Toshiharu Ueda, 10 members) discussed a literature survey aimed at selecting a final disposal site for high-level radioactive waste (nuclear waste) generated from nuclear power plants. The three petitions submitted by the government to accept the investigation were adopted with a majority vote. There were 6 people in favor and 3 people against (excluding the chairperson). This is the first time that a petition regarding a literature review has been adopted at a plenary session of the assembly of the local government where a nuclear power plant is located.
