We're tryng to figure out if it is possible to have a kind of subscription plan that works this way: - user registers and subscribe to a plan, without paying anything in advance - registered user got access to the service, that is a remote-based (phone/web) translation/consulting service - user get billed only when and if uses the service In our mind should work like the paypal's Adaptive Payments, setting up a payment preapproval.

Is it possible to configure something like this?

Ok. Payment preapproval will not work. it works only within the session. it is impossible preaprove payment on registration and then take money one week later. Also when you preaprove you also indicate amount. And it is unknown on the moment of registration because user may have few payment options.

But Emerald does almost what you need.

There is content that accessible for all users including public. There is content that is accessible only for registered. For that you do not need Emerald. Just use Joomla ACL to restrict some content to registered users only. And use Emerald to restrict access to your paid services.

now after user register and attempt to access paid service, he will be suggested to choose subscription plan.
